A Message From Martha

Dear 2017 Frost Place Participant:

Welcome to the 2017 Frost Place Conference — just a few weeks off.
Download the  info packet. You really need to read it now as it contains important info that will make your life — and mine — run smoothly during the conference.
June 22 latest: Send 3 workshop poems to me in accordance with the info packet guidelines at martharhodes@gmail.com. The poems should all be in a single file.
June 22 latest: return the filled in travel form and emergency contact form which also asks you to list allergies / medical conditions we need to know about.
You will hear from me again, closer to the conference. At that time, I will send you a list of faculty classes, the weekly schedule,  your workshop packet (consisting of the poems that will be discussed during the week), and your workshop leader assignment.
Looking forward,
Martha Rhodes

Conference on Poetry Frequently Asked Questions

At the Conference

  • What should I pack?

Evenings get chilly in the White Mountains, even in July! Remember to pack warm clothes for the evening readings. We also recommend bringing a flashlight and bug spray. There are plenty of shops where you can buy these items if necessary.
  • Can I lodge with a roommate?

Yes. If you are planning to bring someone to stay with you who will not be attending the conference, please notify us. There will be an additional guest fee for food and lodging. If you would like to lodge with another participant, just let us know and we will make arrangements.
  • I have a food restriction or allergy, can that be accommodated?

Yes. Please notify us of any food restrictions ahead of time and we will advise the kitchen staff accordingly.
  • Are there computers and/or printers available on the campus? Will there be a way for me to polish and edit work from my journal/notebook on a computer on the campus?

A: You will need to send in copies of your poems via email for the workshop. Martha Rhodes will send out an email detailing all of this. There are computers and printers available for use in the library on campus.

  • When should I arrive?

The first day is check-in, registration, and the first evening reading. On the first day we share important information for the week—it is strongly advised that participants arrive by 3:00pm on Sunday, July 10.
  • Do you have any suggestions of the best way to travel to Manchester or directly to the Frost Place campus from Boston?

There is an “express” bus service from Boston to Littleton(a larger town very close to The White Mountain School where the program accommodations are). You can catch it at the airport in Boston. For the sake of accurate comparison, it takes about two and a half hours to drive from Boston to Littleton in a personal vehicle. You can also rent a car in Manchester or Boston. Finally, we may be able to put you in touch with another participant so that you can carpool. Give us a call and we will work on it together. We will be happy to help you with any questions that you might have. Contact The Frost Place office at frost@frostplace.org or (603)823-5510.
  • Approximately what time is the shuttle from Manchester airport on Sunday, July 10?

The shuttle has not yet been scheduled for 2016. However, in the past the shuttle has been scheduled at 1:00 pm. If you are arriving on an international flight, be sure to give yourself time. We will be sending out an email to all of the participants with more details regarding the 2016 shuttle.
  • I need to extend my stay or have a specific travel need.

We are happy to help as much as possible with travel arrangements. Contact us by phone at (603)823-5510 or email at frost@frostplace.org.
