2023 Conference on Poetry and Teaching

June 24-28, 2023 | Writing Intensive June 28-29, 2023

“For teachers, poetry is a door into the heart of the matter–whether that matter be intellectual or emotional, civic or ecological. Because poetry taps into both wildness and civility, it is a way to guide students into the complexities of human interactions, a way to model honest, deep, and respectful conversation. “

Dawn Potter, Director of The Conference on Poetry and Teaching

Held each year in June, the Conference on Poetry and Teaching (CPT) is a unique opportunity for teachers to work closely with both their peers and a team of illustrious poets who have particular expertise in working with teachers at all levels: K–12, graduate and undergraduate, and nontraditional and community-based instructors.

The 2023 Conference on Poetry and Teaching will be held at The Frost Place led by Director Dawn Potter and by guest faculty Tina Cane and Writing Intensive Director Teresa Carson. Over the course of 4½ days, faculty poets will share specific, hands-on techniques for teaching poetry. The emphasis is on the reading-conversation-writing-revision cycle, and our teaching approach aligns with curriculum standards for reading and writing. Certificate of completion includes 33 hours of continuing education credit.
