As a high school English and communications teacher, I was drawn to the conference at The Frost Place in 2010 just as I was beginning a master’s degree in education focused on literacy. At that time, I had been home for a decade with my two daughters. Learning with and from the poets and teachers who gathered in the barn on Frost’s property for a week in June continues to be one of the most profound experiences of my life – both personally and professionally. The paradigm shift was in realizing how central poetry can be in supporting all we teach in language arts. I have been lucky enough to share so much of what I learned with elementary students in our local school district. Now, as I prepare to return to the classroom, I look forward to not only teaching poetry again to teenagers, but also to returning to the conference.
