Saturday and Sunday, February 4–5, 2023, via Zoom
Saturday 10-3 ET
Sunday 10-12 ET
Dawn Potter, instructor
In this two-day generative session, we’ll consider how the elements of storytelling can help broaden and enrich our engagement with our own poetry drafts. We’ll look at plot movement and character development and consider the construction of suspense and the flexible use of tone—for instance, in the shift between comedy and pathos. Our models will include poets from across place and time: Geoffrey Chaucer, Jean Toomer, Patricia Smith, Cold Mountain, and many others.
This online weekend session is open to anyone, working at any level, who is eager for conversation and deep engagement. The sessions will include generous writing time, an afternoon revision workshop, and an evening poetry reading for participants.
Dates: Saturday and Sunday, February 4–5, 2023
Cost: $200. Class size is limited to 12 participants. All reading materials will be provided.
